Description
Description
Haworthia cymbiformis is a beautiful, compact succulent known for its translucent, boat-shaped (hence the name cymbiformis, meaning “boat-shaped”) leaves. It’s one of the most charming and beginner-friendly Haworthia species, perfect for small pots and windowsill collections.
Here’s what you need to know about Haworthia cymbiformis in a pot:
🌿 About Haworthia cymbiformis:
-
Appearance:
-
Forms small, tight rosettes of chubby, pale green leaves with clear (translucent) “windows” at the tips, allowing light to penetrate for photosynthesis.
-
Rosettes typically reach 2–4 inches (5–10 cm) across.
-
Produces tall, thin flower stalks with tiny white or pale pink flowers in the growing season.
-
-
Growth Habit: Clumping; over time, it produces offsets (pups) that can fill the pot or be divided for propagation.
🪴 Pot Setup:
-
Pot size: A 3–4 inch pot works well for a single rosette. As the plant produces offsets, you can repot into a larger 5–6 inch pot or leave it to cluster densely.
-
Pot type: Best in terra cotta or ceramic pots with drainage holes to prevent excess moisture buildup.
-
Soil: Use a well-draining cactus or succulent mix — you can enhance drainage by adding pumice, perlite, or coarse sand.
☀️ Care Tips:
✅ Light: Prefers bright, indirect light or filtered sunlight. Too much direct sun can scorch the leaves, while too little light can cause stretching. Indoors, a bright windowsill (east- or west-facing) works well.
✅ Watering: Water deeply when the soil is dry. In warmer months, this may be every 2–3 weeks; in winter, water less frequently. Avoid letting the plant sit in soggy soil.
✅ Temperature: Prefers temperatures between 65–80°F (18–27°C). Protect from frost — bring indoors if temperatures drop below 50°F (10°C).
✅ Propagation: Easily propagated by removing offsets and replanting them in fresh soil.
