Crassula 'Gollum', also known as Jade Gollum or Finger Jade, is a unique and fascinating succulent with tubular, elongated leaves that resemble fingers or claws, much like the character Gollum from The Lord of the Rings. The plant is easy to care for, drought-tolerant, and a great addition to any succulent collection.
Here’s what you should know if you’re looking for Crassula 'Gollum' in a pot:
🌿 About Crassula 'Gollum' (Jade Gollum):
-
Appearance:
-
Tubular, finger-like leaves that often have a glossy green color with red tips, especially when grown in bright light.
-
Forms a compact, bushy plant that grows up to 12 inches (30 cm) tall and wide.
-
The leaves may be slightly curved or twisted, giving them a quirky, "alien" look.
-
-
Growth Habit: It tends to grow in a bushy, upright manner, making it great for smaller pots.
🪴 Pot Setup:
-
Pot size: A 3–4 inch pot is great for a starter plant, but it can be transferred to a 5–6 inch pot as it grows.
-
Pot type: Use a terra cotta or ceramic pot with drainage holes — this helps prevent overwatering, which is a common issue with succulents.
-
Soil: A well-draining cactus/succulent mix works best. You can add extra perlite or sand to improve drainage.
☀️ Care Tips:
✅ Light: Prefers bright, indirect sunlight indoors or partial to full sun outdoors. Too little light can make the plant leggy and cause poor coloration.
✅ Watering: Water thoroughly but only when the soil is completely dry. Avoid letting it sit in water. In winter, water less often as it enters a dormant phase.
✅ Temperature: Prefers warm temperatures but is sensitive to frost (below 50°F / 10°C).
✅ Fertilizing: Feed with a diluted, balanced liquid fertilizer during the growing season (spring through summer), but only once a month or so.
