Aeonium castello-paivae, commonly known as Castello-Paiva's Aeonium, is a succulent species native to the Canary Islands, specifically La Gomera. This plant is characterized by its attractive rosettes of fleshy, green leaves that can develop a reddish tint when exposed to bright sunlight.
Key Features:
- Growth Habit: It typically forms a compact rosette and can grow to about 30-50 cm in height.
- Flowers: During the blooming season, it produces clusters of yellow flowers on tall inflorescences, adding visual interest.
Care Requirements:
- Light: Prefers full sun to partial shade; it thrives best in bright light conditions but should be protected from intense afternoon sun to prevent leaf burn.
- Soil: Requires well-draining soil, such as a cactus mix or sandy loam.
- Watering: Water thoroughly but infrequently, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings. It is important to reduce watering during the summer dormancy period.
Aeonium castello-paivae is an excellent choice for succulent gardens and containers, valued for its unique appearance and low maintenance needs.
