Sansevieria Zeylanica Sapling
Description
A Popular Indoor Succulent Sansevieria Zeylanica, commonly called the snake plant, or mother-in-law’s tongue, is one of the best-known succulents people keep indoors. Plants possess tough, rigid, sword-like leaves with light grey-green irregular bands stretching across the length of each and every deep green leaf horizontally.. The leaves rise upright directly from the rhizome underground, rather than from the base of a stem, which gives this a clean architectural profile.
Easy Care Because the sansevieria is so accommodating to indoor conditions and forgiving of infrequent care, this is a favored houseplant for novice keepers or those with little time at home to dedicate to indoor greenery. Water is stored in the plant's chunky leaves, so there’s no strict schedule needed, and though it prefers bright, indirect light during the day, it’s forgiving enough to manage with light low-light areas. Its structure is suitable for plant-lovers and non-plant-lovers alike, working perfectly as a table plant on office desks, study tables or as a living element in bedroom corners or hallway spaces. It has little to offer indoors in terms of flowering plants; the charm here lies in its structural elegance. Air purifier One of the benefits of having an indoor garden, even on a small scale, is the ability to improve indoor air.
Researchers have explored their capacity for cleansing specific pollutants, including the property to release oxygen during the night, which is rather uncommon among houseplants. This makes them appropriate choices to enrich even bedrooms, but avoid considering them solely as 'air filters.' Ultimately, their key strengths - and why gardeners favor them - is that they are long-lived, don't need much maintenance, and can fit in with any style of home and office décor.
Key Features
- Stiff, sword-shaped, erect green to grey-green banded leaves.
- Low growing, stemless design takes up minimum floor or shelf space.
- Tolerant of both bright and low light conditions.
- Very drought tolerant thanks to storing water within leaves.
- Infrequent watering due to drought resistance – good for the forgetful gardener or traveller.
- Rarely needs repotting because of a love for being slightly root-bound. Ideal plant for bedrooms, living rooms, study desks or office tables.
- A real practical, hardy option for a gift or to begin building a plant collection.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: My plant leaves are going yellow or soft?
A: Overwatering or soil staying wet around the roots, this leads to yellow, soft leaves, so dry out completely between waterings. Also ensure the pot has drainage. Soft mush at the base of a leaf means this has to go before any more goes yellow/soft.
Q: How frequently must I water this plant?
A: Only whenever the soil becomes bone dry – for most residences this usually equates to just around one watering each 2-3 weeks (even far less in the course of the winter months). It’s better to under-water this plant as compared to over-water this.
Q: Can a house plant actually live inside with no light at all?
A: This particular variety is one that will tolerate a lack of direct sun better than most house plants. While it will not be as vibrant or as growth oriented if it is solely relying on house lights. You still really want something where it can absorb some amount of sunlight throughout the course of the day though.
Q: How fast is this plant growing and how tall will it get?
A: Most plants have a slow to moderate growth rate, indoor ones will take several years to reach the plant’s optimum size of around two to three feet. Don’t worry about waiting around for a surge of activity and new growth as new leaves will typically slowly unfurl from the center of the plant.
Q: How & When Should I Repot a Plant ?
A: This plant actually likes being a little root bound. Don’t repot this one for at least two or three years, unless it's too big for its pot. Pot up the plant into a one to two inches larger container and use a succulent/cactus pot mixture.
Q: Will the plant hurt my pets?
A: No. This plant is harmful to pets, and also small children when the parts are chewed or ingested. Sansevieria includes chemical compounds which irritate the stomach and mouth areas and will poison pets and small children. Be sure this plant is placed out of reach.
